Buffalo Hunters complete the NORTHERN TERRITORY Police application.
Sambar Hunters complete the VICTORIA Police application PLUS Customs Import Permit applications for Firearms, and also ammunition PLUS GAME LICENCE APPLICATION.
All overseas visitors wishing to use firearms in Australia must complete the permit application form for the State that they are hunting in. However you can travel through all states with firearms if you have a permit issued by any state, it is just technically illegal to use them in states for which you do not have a permit.
If you are hunting in both states you will need to complete both applications. It sounds complicated but there is not a lot of information required. In addition Sambar hunters should note that the customs applications merely duplicate the information about firearms and ammo already entered on their Licence application. The Game licence application is also simple. However to assist you we have prepared the following notes.
Visitors Permits

If you are using our firearms all you will need to complete is Part 1, Part 4, and Part 5 or Part 6 depending on your home country licensing arrangements.
If you are bringing your own firearms you will need to complete all parts.
European Visitors: You do not need to be a member of a hunt club to hunt in Australia. All you need is a licence to own firearms.
USA Visitors: In most cases you will not need a license in your home state to possess longarms, in this instance you will have your local police complete Part 6.
Can you please complete the form and return it with two passport photos to us at least 6 weeks prior to your departure for Australia .We will pay the fee and obtain the License (and import/export papers if you are bringing firearms.) and forward these to you.
Part 1. Personal Information
Are you a member of a Hunting/Shooting Club? Answer no to this if it will be difficult to obtain a certified copy of your membership card. A photocopy of your card annotated by your local police officer or club official to say it is a true copy of your membership is all that is required. You do not have to be a member of a club to get your visitors permit.
Arrival and Departure: These are the airports where you will clear customs and immigration on arrival and departure.

Part 2 Firearm Details

Check the instruction on the cover page to correctly identify your firearm. If in doubt email, phone or fax us with the details of your rifle and we will advise.
More than one firearm? A note such as large calibre for buffalo, small for pigs, dingos, deer would be sufficient reason. (Leave where will firearms be stored blank we will complete this when lodging your application.)
Part 3 Accessories
This covers your ammunition, spare magazines, and second barrel for guns with interchangeable barrels. Not general accessories such as cases, scopes etc. If you are not already aware, International Air Travel regulations permit a maximum of 5Kilograms / 11lbs of safety ammunition packed in manufacturer’s box or better and stowed in checked, locked, baggage. As USA requires all baggage to be unlocked or locked with an approved pattern lock, you should stow your ammo in a small locked box inside the case.
Muzzle Loaders: You cannot travel with black powder, or any powder for that matter, or percussion caps. Contact us beforehand and we will arrange powder and caps.

Unless you are about to face serious charges involving bodily harm to someone or have been convicted of a serious offence I suggest you answer in the negative to these questions. If you have hunted in Australia before but cannot remember the details of your permit just give the state and date and add cannot remember.
Part 5. Declaration
The witness should have a different family name to you but can be anybody.
Part 6. Police Certification
If you do not need a license to use rifles or shotguns in your home country have your local police complete this for you.
